To begin with, our rough cut viewing with Helen went smoothly. She liked Cailan as the news anchor as well as a lot of the shots we used such as both the interior and exterior shots of Alex in the car with Alex presenting the package. There was also positive feedback on our interviewee, Ajay, who was said to be interesting to listen to.
The main problem was that the live interview itself was far too long, lasting up to six minutes when we needed only two minutes. I personally would have thought that cutting the interview down, using separate footage to cover up the edits, would be the best solution to fixing this problem. However, Helen thought otherwise. She said that for the interview to appear like it was live, then the duration of the interview itself actually had to be two minutes long. Otherwise it would appear fake. It was advised that we put parts of the interview into our package and incorporate it somehow into what is already featured in the package.
This means that we now have to go out and find something else to film which can serve as our live segment. We all left the viewing and overall feedback feeling very disheartened, noting how it is only a week until our final deadline and it is going to be quite hard to find anything that we can film live, let alone actually film something.
We will have to confer with each other and see what we come up with.
