Feedback on Soundtrack: Opening Jingle

The rest of the group came back to me with their opinions on the opening 'jingle' I had created. The feedback was mostly positive; however, they didn't like the ending where the 'orchestra-hits' came in and they compared it to a 90s disco tune. listening to this version again, I realize this and agree that it sounds a little too much like a pop song opening.

To tackle this comparison, I decided to strip back the entire piece, leaving only the bass-line and the quiet 'Chitty Chitty Bang Bang' sound intact at the end.

I then recorded a new kick-drum over the bass-line which was now slower as I felt that the rapid kick-drum from the original recording attributed too much to wards the 'pop song' feel of the original.

A filter was put over the bass-line in order to subdue the sound very slightly so it wasn't so loud and bombastic and I also included a quiet cymbal   crash as the end as a replacement for the melody that I had previously had at the end.

Some 'reverb' was also added to the kick-drum to make it sound a little more natural, like it had been played live to a big room. The effect this had meant that the drums didn't over-bear on the rest of the instruments. However, I felt something went a little wrong during my editing as the drums appear to cut a out too soon at time. This is a problem that I shall rectify for the final version of the piece.

To add some extra effects (and to keep in with the theme of cars and motoring in general) I decided to add a sound effect of a car ignition before the music starts which slowly fades out. At this point, a sound effect of an electric car driving past fades in and plays under the music for the rest of the piece.

I am much happier with this version and have already received feedback from the rest of the group in regards to it and it appears to be positive. However, I still have a few problems with it. I feel that the bass-line is too fast, meaning that the drums need to pick up the pace and it makes the music sound a little bit rushed. To tackle this, I will re-record the bass-line to be much slower and then record and add parts from this version onto it.
