More Work Done Over Skype (2nd October 2017) : Locations Around London

It was decided that we would do another Skype call later that day. This session consisted of finding potential locations to film in London. The idea is to spend a day in London trying to capture shots of technology and industry and how they have developed. We would use shots of different buildings built in different eras to show the progression in technology over the years. This would link into the theme of technological advancement which is reflected by how vehicle technology has slowly developed over time; starting with the petrol and diesel cars and then developing into the new electric car.

We each started looking into different kinds of landmarks that we could film at. Several notable locations found and proposed included the BT Tower. This is an obvious inclusion as it was built and completed in the 1960s and is a representation of both architecture and the technological advancements for the time.

Another location was Battersea Power Station. This building's completion dates back even further into the 1930s. This would allow us to show an earlier time in the technological and industrial scene. As it was also used for the purpose of providing electric power until 1983, this seems an appropriate location to fit in with the themes of an electrical car.

ArcelorMittal Orbit was a building that I suggested being as it is a relatively new structure. It was built to serve as an observation tower and to mark London's 2012 Olympic games. It is more of an artistic statement than an actual a building used for any sort of industry. However, rather than showing a revolution or development in the industrial or technological scene, it does display a more futuristic vision that reflects on the proposed vision of electric cars for the future and thus I feel that footage of this structure would work well to fit in with these themes.

The only reservation I have for the whole idea of filming in London (and one which I shall put forward to the group) is that this can easily be done with stock footage. I personally feel that it would save us time and also the hassle of having to carry the expensive equipment around busy London.

I'm also not sure if I will be able to make it to this shoot personally due to difficulties with both travel and various things currently occurring at home. I will, however, try to make up for this through a greater contribution in other areas of the project such as creating our news report soundtrack as well as featuring as the news anchor in the studio for the final project itself.
